SAMSON OGUNMOLA: The Rising Star!

Spotting jersey number 6, 16-year-old Samson Ogunmola of Kiddos Rising Academy made his debut from the bench for the U17 Nigeria team against the Ivory Coast on Wednesday 6 January 2021 at the ongoing WAFU U17 Zone B in Lome, Togo.

Ogunmola came on as a second-half substitute for the Golden Eaglets in the 67th minute for Haruna Hassan in a lackluster performance that gave the Ivory Coast complete dominance and a 1:0 victory. However, he was one of the few Eaglets that showed signs of brilliance in the game.

The strong and skillful winger started out his playing career as a 9-year-old kid in 2013 for Ikosi FC in the Ketu area of Lagos State till 2020 before moving on to Kiddos RA. Ogunmola is one of the many youth players in Ketu axis of Lagos State who are disadvantaged by lack of proper playing area as there is no sports recreational facility to help aid their talents,  unlike in areas like Gbagada, Anthony,  Oshodi, and other areas of Lagos State where there are state constructed recreational facilities.

Ogunmola’s strength lies in his strong left foot, dribbling skills, and his expertise from dead-ball situations.

The Eaglets have a must-win game against Ghana on Saturday. No doubt Ogunmola would be one of the players that can make a big difference against Ghana. Fans all over Nigeria will only be hoping he gets more playing time for him to showcase more of his talents to the world.
